Honeywell Home radiator valves work with Lightwave

19 August 2021 | Lightwave

Whats new?

Lightwave is now fully compatible with the Honeywell Home HR91 & HR92 thermostatic radiator valves. This means that you can use the Lightwave App to monitor, control and schedule these devices (Lightwave Link Plus required) and use them to control your radiators. No plumbing is required.

What can the new Honeywell Home valves do?

The new Honeywell valves offers smart control of your home’s heating radiator by radiator. The target temperature for a room can be changed from anywhere, and schedules set for each day of the week. As part of the Lightwave Link Plus ecosystem, these devices can also be part of a wider Lightwave stat home systems; e.g. if a window is open then the heating can be automatically turned down when a radiator valve is grouped to a magnetic trigger; when the Movement Sensor detects that a spare room has been occupied for the first time in a while, we can warm the room up; and when the entire house is set up to shut down at the touch of a button, now the heating can also be part of the routine.

Features

  • Minimum two-year battery life
  • Near silent operation
  • Alexa & Google compatibility (not Apple HomeKit)
  • No plumbing required

Installation & setup

The Honeywell Home installation manual should be consulted in order to guide you through the simple physical install (no plumbing is required). The process for linking (known as ‘binding’ by Honeywell users) is the same as with the Honeywell EvoHome Controller, but the Lightwave App can now be used to add the device: simply click the ‘+’ button, then ‘devices’ on the Lightwave App and choose the Honeywell device option to begin.

System Compatibility

It’s important to note that the TRVs cannot be used simultaneously with the Honeywell EvoHome Controller and the Lightwave Link Plus; they can only be linked to one system at a time. Only the HR91 and HR92 valves are currently compatible with Lightwave.

Behavioural characteristics

Command response time: in order to achieve a battery life of at least two years the TRVs have a ‘sleep cycle’ of four minutes. This means that it can take up to four minutes for any data or target change to be registered by the device. In the App, if a value is set, it will be displayed instantly, but in the event that the TRV fails to register this value once it makes contact with the Link Plus, then the app will revert back to the previous value.

Display temperature: the HR92 includes a screen which displays the target temperature of the device. It’s here that any delay/discrepancy with the target that has been set on the App may be most noticeable. In the vast majority of cases, the valve is still operating correctly, and the display will change to reflect the correct temperature shortly.

Calibration: the TRV will re-calibrate one minute after it’s ‘lock’ has been engaged. The lock is the mechanism that secures the body of the device to the valve seat pin that is engaged when the TRV is installed. If this is unlocked, then the device will not respond to target changes by moving the pin (so don’t expect the temperature to necessarily change if you are trailing the TRV by holding it in your hand!)
