Tim Dorow was 18 years old when he started as a storeman for Barnet Electrical Mart, that was twenty years ago. Tim is now Manager of the successful North London electrical wholesaler, known more familiarly to local contractors as BEM.
From the beginning
BEM was one of the very first stockists of Lightwave products going back nearly 10 years. In those days, it’s fair to say this new disruptive technology was a learning experience for both manufacturer, reseller and tradesperson. During this time, Tim has not only been an evangelist for Lightwave, he has also been a key voice in feeding back improvements in both hardware and software features from a tradesperson’s perspective. These invaluable ‘on-the-job’ insights have helped Lightwave develop their products to be incredibly easy to install, simple to set up and control.
BEM’s joined-up solution
Tim has a unique approach with his loyal customer base, putting to use his knowledge and experience in helping guide either property developers or designers with a complete package for their lighting requirements and indeed all of their electrical work. Tim and his team at BEM specialise in taking the pain away from planning and installations, ensuring a complete joined-up solution from specification to project completion. This is highly valued amongst Tim’s electrical installers, allowing them to save crucial time, giving their clients complete satisfaction with all products and solutions provided.

BEM & Lightwave PRO
Lightwave has created a national Lightwave PRO installer network, training NICEIC qualified electricians on aspects of Lightwave’s benefits and features. PRO installers are up to date on the latest Lightwave retrofit smart home products and solutions including smart lighting, power and even heating control. Tim was one of Lightwave’s first partners to recognise the value of his contractor base being trained on Lightwave products and has ultimately created a large and loyal Lightwave/BEM customer base. BEM have embraced training to all members of the trade counter staff offering expert advice from any of the in house team.

Although the branch carries a Lightwave display board, Tim has gone the extra mile by installing Lightwave devices together with voice-activated speakers in a kitchen area to demonstrate the ease of the system. This is yet another demonstration of the company’s proactive approach in bringing products and experiences to life, ultimately winning business again and again for both the manufacturer brand and the reseller.
